What Makes a Successful Blogger

Yesterday, I was reading a post on ProBlogger.net titled, “Why Most Bloggers will Fail, No Matter How Hard They Try“. I like the content so much, I sent a link to the post to a young future blogger. After I pressed the send button, I had second thoughts. I was afraid the title would discourage they were going to get discourage. The title gave a dim view of success. Failure was going to happen regardless of how much work is put into the blog.

I thought about rewriting it, but that would not be fair to the author. Then I decided to get out of my bed and put together seven things what I consider will make a blogger, writer, or just any person a success.

  1. Passion - Passion is that driving force of emotion that will push through no matter what is in the way. Steve Jobs had a passion about making things simple and eloquent. The Woz had a passion about designing circuit boards. Together they made Apple computer.
  2. Direction - Passion is good but with out direction, any energy expended would be like a chicken with its head cut off. Running around wanting to get somewhere, but not seeing how to get there.
  3. Rejection - In every biography of ever writer there is an lot or reject; rejection from other writers, rejection from family, and rejection from readers. That rejection can come in many forms. Rejection should be faced head on.  Just learn from it and keep moving forward.
  4. Criticism - Constructive Criticism can be seen as rejection. I firmly believe without constructive criticism there will be no growth. The Toastmasters model for growth is best one I have ever seen. The criticism is not just from the view of one person. The criticism comes from varying people with one goal. That goal is to lead and communicate better.
  5. Dealing with Failure - There is nothing worst for a writer to have no one read their work. It could even be writing this great blog post, and only two or three read it. Failure is to be expected. KEEP WRITING! Think of Thomas Edison. How many tries at the light bulb did he make before he got something that work?
  6. Your Body - We need our physical bodies to express our ideas and passions in words. If we don’t take care of it, it will not allow us to express our passion in the way we want it too. You will find eating right, exercise, and getting the right amount of sleep will make for better thought process and a high quality of work.
  7. Writing Platform - In the 21st century pen and papers will not get you read. A computer, tablet, or cell phone that takes imputed words and post a forum, or blog is needed. I am a great fan of WordPress as that platform. It is relatively easy to use and flexible.

I am sure there are more details that could be written about the factors for successful blogging. Those details are for future post. Other successful bloggers could contribute there idea here. But want I want to say is let us stay as positive as possible for the young bloggers. The more mature bloggers need the reverse psychological approach just to get them out of their comfort zone.
